SAS joins SCCL as a corporate member and launches direct route between Riga and Stockholm

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) re-opens its direct flight services from Latvia and on March 29, 2015 launches direct route from Riga to Stockholm. SAS will operate 18 weekly flights between the two cities: there will be two daily flights on the week days and one daily flight on weekend days.
Airplanes from Stockholm Arlanda airport will take off at 08:20 and 16:00 local time. Accordingly, passengers from Riga will depart at 11:05 and 18:45. Regular flights between the two capital cities will be operated as of this aviation summer season, i.e. March 29, 2015. Tickets will be available for purchase this week.
The launch of new route between Riga and Stockholm marks the return of SAS direct flight services in the country after almost seven years of a break: the last SAS flight in Latvia took off from Riga in July 2008.
“For years Sweden has been one of the key Latvia’s business partners and by far the biggest foreign investor in the country[1]. This led to the growth of business travel traffic between the two countries. Therefore, with Latvian economy demonstrating clear signs of recovery, SAS made the strategic decision to respond to customer needs by launching direct flight services between Riga and Stockholm”, pointed out Rūta Juciene, SAS Country Manager Baltic States.
According to Ms. Juciene, growing Latvian economy is not the only argument for the opening of new route. Yet another reason behind SAS’s decision is Latvia’s EU Presidency during the first half of 2015, which will also boost travel demand.
Daily direct flights from Riga to Stockholm will also provide SAS customers with numerous connection opportunities via Arlanda airport to destinations in Europe and overseas.
Founded in 1946, Scandinavian Airlines is one of the oldest and biggest airline companies in European civil aviation industry. Being a member of Star Alliance group, together with 27 partners SAS offers 1300 destinations worldwide in 193 countries. We are happy to accept SAS as a corporate member and look forward to our cooperation in future!
